Stirling

Stirling Mk III, EE944, HA-H was airborne at 2114 on a Special Duties Operation. On return to base at 0217 the port outer engine failed while approaching the runway on short finals, the aircraft having descended to 150 feet, the port wing dropped. The pilot opened the throttles in an attempt to go round again, but was unable to prevent the Stirling from side slipping into the ground.

All the crew except Seargents Meredith and Porter were killed.
